Columbia University, 180 Degrees Consulting is the world’s largest consultancy for non-profits & social enterprises. We provide high-quality consulting services to social impact organizations so they can improve and expand their services. And we do this through consulting engagements at Columbia University for non-profits and social enterprises in the New York City Area and beyond.

Our mission is to strengthen the ability of socially conscious organizations in the Greater New York City Area. Through this we achieve high impact social outcomes through the development of innovative, practical and sustainable solutions.

At Columbia University 180 Degrees Consulting, we hope to provide a transformational experience for Columbia University students by creating the opportunity to gain real world consulting experience in a collegiate environment.

We’ve worked with small growing businesses and start-ups and also large non-profits and social enterprises. We operate on a semester basis in the Fall and in the Spring. We provide training to our consultants and resources to make sure we provide clients with the highest quality deliverables.

  • Zaya Learning Labs

    Area: Education
    Year: 2016

    Zaya Learning Labs is an Indian social enterprise committed to addressing the quality of primary education for low-income communities through its technology-enabled “blended learning” model. The venture-backed company currently impacts over 30,000 students across India by providing schools with hardware, software, content, lesson plans, and training and implementation services for their classrooms. The company plans to launch its first direct-to-consumer mobile application to equip children with grade-level skills in English.

    Zaya was interested in entering the Indian educational technology mobile application market to further the impact of its product. To this end, the objective of this project ws to build Zaya’s market entry strategy, which should equip more than 1,000,000 grade 1-3 students in North India with grade-level skills in English through adoption of its mobile application.
  • WE ACT

    Area: Environmental Justice
    Year: 2017

    WE ACT for Environmental Justice is a Northern Manhattan community-based organization whose
    mission is to build healthy communities by assuring that people of color and/or low-income
    participate meaningfully in the creation of sound and fair environmental health and protection
    policies and practices. As a result of our ongoing work to educate and mobilize the more than
    630,000 residents of Northern Manhattan on environmental issues affecting their quality of life,
    WE ACT has become a leader in the nationwide movement for environmental justice, influencing
    the creation of federal, state and local policies affecting the environment.

    To reach members of the Harlem community more effectively on various environmental justice
    issues, WE ACT is looked to develop a long-term membership model and framework to showcase
    progress. The first objective of this project was to thoroughly understand WE ACT’s existing strategic
    plan and membership contribution system and to provide recommendations on how to structure a
    long-term plan. Secondarily, this project will also identify membership success metrics and create
    a routine method of regularly displaying WE ACT’s progress as an organization to donors,
    members, and policymakers.
  • Teach for America

    Area: Education
    Year: 2018

    Teach For America (TFA) is a nonprofit organization whose stated mission is to "enlist, develop, and
    mobilize as many as possible of our nation's most promising future leaders to grow and strengthen the
    movement for educational equity and excellence.” The organization aims to accomplish this by recruiting
    and selecting college graduates from top universities around the United States to serve as teachers. The
    selected members, known as "corps members," commit to teaching for at least two years in a public or public
    charter K–12 school in one of the 52 low-income communities that the organization serves.

    The TFA-Bay Area chapter is among one of the most popular the most popular regions with 2855 alumni and
    a corps size of 325. To improve donations and corps interest, the region was looking to expand its PR strategy,
    particularly with growing its social media strategy.
  • Cognitive Toybox

    Area: Education
    Year: 2019

    Cognitive Toybox co-founders are committed to closing the early achievement gap
    through evidence-based technology solutions.The startup’s mission statement is to help every child start kindergarten ready
    to succeed, as kindergarten scores can be predictive of future successes including high school
    graduation, future earnings, and retirement savings.

    Cognitive ToyBox wanted to get a better understanding of the best go-to-market strategy that can
    optimize impact and scale.
    This was pursued by discovering the best distribution channels in public and private programs and leveraging PIR data to target Headstart programs.
